Club HistorianClayton Vale Cricket Club was founded on 12 August 1924 by a group of florists and market gardeners at Robert Parker’s home in Queens Avenue (now Rosebank Avenue), Clayton Vale. The Club’s first ground was a paddock called ‘The Old Damper’ on Wordsworth Avenue. The Club played social matches in its first season until it joined the Springvale Cricket Association for the 1928/29 season.
The Club won its first Premiership in 1930/31. After this Premiership, the Club decided their colours are ‘Blue and light blue with white writing.’ The following season, 1931/32, the Club joined the Oakleigh District Cricket Association 1931/32 and won their second Premiership in 1932/33.
The Club moved to Springs Road Reserve, Clayton South in 1948/49. A Second XI was fielded for the first time in the same season. In 1958/59, a Junior side was fielded for the first time.
In 1963, the Club changed its name to Clayton District Cricket Club. In 1963/64, a Third XI was fielded in the ODCA.
The First XI did not win a Premiership until 1967/68 in the ODCA’s B Grade. For the 1968/69 season, a turf square was inserted into Namatjira Park (formerly Springs Road Reserve).
In 1969/70, the Club joined the prestigious Victorian Junior Cricket Association and changed its name to Clayton in that competition. The Club fielded a Fourth XI in the ODCA in the same season. The Third XI, Fourth XI, and juniors were fielded under the name Clayton District. In 1971/72, both the First XI won the South A Premiership and the Second XI the South C2 Premiership.
For 1977/78, the Club was moved to Clayton Reserve, Haughton Road, Clayton. The First XI won Premierships in 1980/81, 1989/90,
1999/2000, 2018/19 (White-ball premiers), and 2021/22. In 100 seasons, the Club has won nine First XI Premierships.
n 2010, the Club joined the Mid-Year Cricket Association, which plays through winter. The Club was the Inaugural Premier and won another three Senior Premierships and one Under 14 Junior Premiership until the end of Season 2024.
By 2024/25, the Club fielded 175 boys and girls in the junior Inner South East Cricket competition. Two Under-13 sides were Premiers, and a U15 side was Runners-Up. In the same Season, the Club fielded a seventh Senior team for the first time, and that side was Premiers in the South East Cricket Association. The First XI made the 2nd Division CSB Grand Final but was easily beaten.
I’ve been pulling on the Clayton colours for over a decade—bloody great culture, grouse coaches, and a tight-knit crew that’s always got your back.

Four seasons in and still stoked—heaps of improvement, proper mateship, and a club that backs you on and off the park.

Joined as a junior and now in the seniors; the pathways, facilities and community vibe here are top-notch—couldn’t ask for a better club.
